The membership drive of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received an overwhelming response in the coastal areas on Sunday as people queued up for registering their applications to join the party.

At Mangalore alone over 900 people enrolled in the drive that last for just about three hours drive on Sunday morning. With this, the total membership in Mangalore is 2,000, and the number is expected to go up to 5,000, according to the AAP area district co-ordinator Dharmendra.

“We will get the right picture about the membership only after January 26, as the online and SMS memberships that are pouring in from all over the district will be tabulated and released on that date on a national scale, he said.

Coorg

AAP coordinator of Madikeri district, Thimmiah Madithiri said: “We had a counter at the recently concluded Kannada Sahitya Sammelana where we got about 300 memberships and so far at Madikeri city, we have over 1,100 memberships. Many people from Madikeri who have settled in Bangalore have begun sending their memberships online. I expect the Kodagu district to have nearly 3,000 memberships.”

Udupi
Udupi district coordinator of AAP, Yathish Kumar Katpady, said the party has received over 1,000 memberships. “Two other major towns like Kundapur and Karkala are also showing good response, but at this point of time, it is not possible to arrive at the exact figure. The drive in Udupi has been going on for the past two weeks and we are yet to look at the online registrations.”

Uttar Kannada district, though a late starter for the membership drive, has mopped up 700 memberships in Karwar and Ankola taluks( Karwar assembly constituency). The party is positive that it will get nothing less than 6,000 memberships as the district has a large geographical area distributed into 11 taluks.
