The entire east-west corridor of Namma Metro between Byappanahalli and Mysore Road terminal (18.1 km) is expected to be opened for public by the end of this year.
Making the announcement in his address to the joint session of the legislature here on Wednesday, Governor HR Bhardwaj said the Metro rail service between Peenya and Nagasandra would be commissioned in August 2014.
Bhardwaj said the city’s infrastructure sector would be strengthened by taking up signature projects such as City Gas Distribution (CGD) for clean fuel, Bangalore International Convention Centre (BIC) and Devanahalli Business Park (DBP).
“A new scheme has also been launched to provide drinking water from Cauvery river to 110 villages, recently added to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits,’’ the governor said.
He said the new industrial policy would be formulated and implemented from April 1, 2014, and the manufacturing sector would be strengthened in order to create 10 lakh jobs in the next five years.
“In order to project the state as a preferred destination for investors, a Global Investors’ Meet is planned in October 2014. A facility will be provided to file the applications and to obtain all approvals/licences online from various stakeholders,’’ the governor said.
“A policy on small airports is being prepared for improving the regional air connectivity in the state,’’ the governor said.
