In Gandhi's own country people seem running away from his philosophy and what he taught to the whole world. But a person from America Don McAvinchey, better known as the American Gandhi is spreading Gandhian message of non-violence, leadership and global social responsibility in different parts of the world.

In an interacting session with people held at St Aloysius College he said "Gandhi does not only belong to India, he belongs to the whole world. If we consider the present scenario, there is a need to follow his message of non-violence to keep the world alive.

A preacher of Gandhian principles, McAvinchey has conducted numerous workshops in India as well as abroad.

Till now I have done 111 lecturers and presentations on Gandhi ideology and I started doing this from 2008 and it is my fifth visit to India. I am likely to visit every year, says Don. McAvinchey spoke about Gandhian principles and non-violence for an hour. Then there was a session for question and answers.

A school teacher Srimathi Dayalan, expressed her view on how the society should be. She said a society should give equal opportunity to both the genders. In India, equality between a man and woman is increasing but still we have a long way to go.

Don says, both Gandhiji's non-violent movement and WTO's plane crash occurred on September 11, and yet the motive was greatly different.

It is sad that in all schools the children think of Gandhiji only on October 2 for five minutes by singing a patriotic song, other than that schools should keep aside some time to teach the students about the Gandhi principles every day says Sister merry.

Don condemned his own country's way of approaching the international issues. According to him USA is using its military power and seek to get what they want through non-violence. McAvinchey, strongly believes in the idea of love can change the whole world. He believes in Gandhi's ideology and said that strong love can change the mind of vicious people.

According to Don McAvinchey, only four per cent of people in the world are involved in violence, the remaining 96% of people live a peaceful life. But, the exaggeration caused by the media makes us think the other way.
