From villain on the silver screen to hero in real life - Ambarish has not only seen the film industry grow, but he has also grown as actor, politician and human being. On his 60th birthday, this aspect came to light with a photo exhibition dedicated to him at the Durga Parameshwari Grounds in JP Nagar on Tuesday.
Rare photographs of Ambarish, candid frames shot behind the scenes of his films, home and family, his association with the film industry and social workers formed an array of 700-odd photos by the KM Veeresh, editor, Chitraloka.com.
“I hold the Limca Book of Records for taking 3,000 photos of Ambarish. This exhibition has only the best of them. Since the venue cannot hold so many photos, we decided to display only 700,” Veeresh said.
While fans were only waiting for the VIPs to leave, so that they could catch a glimpse of the rare photos, the VIPs seemed too enthralled to leave. “These are some rare moments. We work in so many films and we see people and meet people. We forget those moments and if they are captured in this way, it means a lot,” actress Jayamala said.
Though the rebel star could not make it to the exhibition, the event was a star-studded one. TS Nagabhrana, Upendra, Jayamala, Thara, Jayanthi and others made it a grand affair. Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda said on the occasion, “In our life we see people who turn villains from heroes. But in Ambarish’s case, he has become a hero from being a villain in reel-life. I wish him a happy birthday.”
While the stars wished Mandyada Gandu, his fans had much more than mere wishes. Some of them had tattoos with ‘Rebel 60’, ‘Mandyada Gandu forever’, ‘Yavagalu Leader number one’, ‘Gajendra’ and more. “I once saw Ambi anna near K R Circle. He was driving a Scorpio car and I waved at him. But since he had not seen me he drove past me. Some years later, I met him at the sets of a film and I told him that I had seen him and waved at him. He is so simple that he said that he had not seen me and said sorry for it. He is so humble,” said Srinivasa, a fan.
Fans poured in from all over to wish the star on his 60th birthday, but he was nowhere to be seen. But many hoped that they would get a fleeting glimpse at the evening’s function.
