Swami Nithyananda, allegedly involved in a sex scandal, has claimed that there were some influential persons behind the allegations of sexual misconduct made against him.

Nithyananda also claimed that the people involved in framing the allegations had tried to extort Rs100 crore from him to prevent the release of the sex video, allegedly involving him and actress Ranjitha, to a TV news channel.

Nithyananda, who was addressing the media at his Bidadi ashram said, “I have all necessary proof to prove that people with political background have threatened, blackmailed and demanded ransom. I don’t want to reveal names to the media, because my life will be in danger after that. I will submit all the names along with the proof to the court.”

He also expressed shock at the woman who slapped rape charges against him. “The police should have asked why the woman returned again and again to my room, if she was being raped,” Nithyananda said.

“I did not come to the media all these days, as there was a threat to my life. There was no legal support for me to fight the allegation Lenin made that I was in sexual contact with Ranjitha,” claimed Nithyananda. The swami also said that if Lenin had any issues, he should have dealt with him directly, without dragging actress Ranjita into it.

“I feel bad that my devotee Ranjita’s name was involved in the sex footage which was released in March last year. I ask Lenin to face me directly,” said Nithyananda, adding, “I am not the one in the video. It is morphed, using standard technology”

On the case filed against him, Nithyananda said that he did not abscond when the video was telecast in a Tamil channel. “I was in the Himalayas attending the Kumbha mela. Before releasing the footage to the media, Lenin along with some powerful persons asked me to pay Rs100 crore, which I denied. They then came down to Rs60 crore,” claimed Nithyananda.

“However I did not want to pay them, so the video was given to a Tamil news channel,” he said.

“The footage, which was released on March 3, 2010, was made using 1,000 video chips, 1,000 computers and within 24 hours.

Some large organisations were also involved in this racket. They were busy uploading the morphed video on YouTube, which generated about 1.5 lakh bytes. The Internet was jammed only on two occasions, one when Michael Jackson died and the second, when this sex video was uploaded,” claimed Nithyananda, adding that he had informed the CID police, who did not listen to him, and filed the chargesheet against him.

Nithyananda’s advocate KV Dhanraj said, “The video was displaying the time as 8 am, but the alarm in it showed 11 am. That shows that the whole thing was morphed.”

Asked whether his devotees were involved in sexual activities within the ashram, Nithyananda had a cryptic response: “I am behind the male and female. My devotees can either live happily in married life, or they can take to sanyas.”
