61 primary health centers to be upgraded in Bangalore city

The state government will release funds to upgrade the primary health centers at 198 wards in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) jurisdiction, according to the Health Minister UT Khader.

Speaking at the inaugural function of medical services, Khader said the objective of spending money to upgrade the primary health centers under National Urban Health Mission programme was to reduce child mortality and control contagious diseases. “We have decided to provide all facilities at the primary health centers to treat people suffering from hypertension, diabetes and cardiac problems,” the minister said.

He further said that the state government has already released Rs 33.73 crore during the financial year 2013-14 and Rs 25.60 crore has been allocated in the state budget for the year 2014-15.

Khader said that till now, upgrading of four primary health centers has been completed and the work to upgrade five primary health centers is in progress. “Tenders have been floated inviting bidders to upgrade 61 primary health centres. The order has been issued to supply medicines to these primary health centers. An office of project manager has been opened at Malleshwaram BBMP office,” Khader said.

Mayor N Shantha Kumari, Deputy Mayor K Ranganna, BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana and other officials participated in the inaugural function held at Dr Rajkumar Glass House at BBMP Head Office premises.
