Hope foundation, in association with Accenture, organised a Cyclothon in the city on Sunday.

Over 100 cyclists in the city came together on Sunday, in a bid to increase the awareness on the importance of leading a healthy, green lifestyle and also save the planet in the process.

Organised by Hope foundation in association with the employees of Accenture, a mission to save the planet and build awareness about the rising pollution levels, the Cylcothon commenced at 7 am and covered a distance of 10 km from Cubbon Park to LalBhag and back.

According to a study by New Delhi’s Tata Energy Research Institute, pollution in India could rise to alarming levels by the middle of the century, unless immediate preventive action is taken. With technological advancement, humans have progressed and along with this, there has been a phenomenal increase in the number of pollutants.

According to statistics available with the Karnataka State Pollution Board (KSPCB), the level of air pollution in the city has increased exponentially. Whether it is residential areas, industrial areas or even sensitive areas like hospitals, the quality of air is poorer than the standard set by the board.

Hope foundation is an international charity that provides non-sectarian assistance to the millions of needy people per year in over 80 countries. It is an NGO recognised in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, and is a registered private voluntary organisation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
