Mysore farmer leaders slam politicians for inability to save water

Farmers in Mandya, Malavalli and Maddur have criticised political leaders, stating that their contribution to save the water in KRS for the use of farmers of Karnataka was nil.

“There are 28 MPs and Rajya Sabha members in Parliament... What is the use of ministerial diplomacy! Earlier on Monday, Vishwanath and Dhruvanaryan met the Union minister for irrigation Harish Rawat at Delhi. But, they did not sound an alarm in Parliament when it was in session,” Nanjunde Gowda, leader of the Cauvery Hitarakshana Vedike told DNA.

“Why did these MLAs and MPs not move a resolution along with other Congress representatives in both the houses for pushing a national river water sharing policy! It was not just Cauvery, there are water disputes between Karnataka and Goa (Mahadayi) Karnataka and Andhra (Krishna) and Karnataka and Pondicherry (Cauvery),” said an octogenarian farmer leader, G Madae Gowda.

In the recent Supreme Court order, Karnataka could have hastened the process of filing a review petition. But, it has still not decided to file it. It is a big loss for Karnataka and the law firm handling Karnataka’s accounts was doing more damage than good to Karnataka, said TS Satyananda, Congress leader from Mandya.

This is the second time the state government has fumbled in filing a review petition. The earlier case of delay was in October, when Tamil Nadu wanted 4.5 TMC ft from the state.

“If the review petition was filed in time, the SC would have reconsidered and even decided to appoint a commission to take a look at Karnataka’s side of story,”
