Good Water for India [Video feature]

Nearly 600 million Indians do not have access to safe drinking water. And nearly 1600 people die each day due to water impurities. This is exactly what Spring Health is attempting to address. At just 30 paisa per litre of drinking water, Spring Health is boosting the health of people in 100 villages in Orissa. In this refreshing conversation over chai, Lakshmi Rebecca catches up with Jacob Mathew, the Director of Spring Health. His is a business that is reducing the risk of water borne diseases, boosting the productivity of the nation and safeguarding the health of its next generation.

Even as they sell clean drinking water at just 30 paisa per litre,Jacob and his team are creating a for-profit business that will be sustainable and has the power to scale. “We are not dependent on Government subsidies, we are completely a for-profit market driven model. Our team identifies villages, speaks to communities and also organizes water test melas in order to test samples of the water they drink,” says Jacob Mathew while speaking to Lakshmi.

Spring Health is looking to make safe drinking water accessible to large numbers of people in rural India. Orissa is just the beginning. The business has been using known water purification methods and is now encouraging rural citizens to carry specially packaged water to decrease the consumption from contaminated sources. Their goal is not just clean water, but better health for India. Watch the video!
