The AAP has gone back to doing what it does best: Engaging in disruptive politics. The latest publicity stunt by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and some of his comrades-in-arms has precipitated a governance crisis, much to the dismay of the capital’s residents.

Having failed to live up to its promise of transforming the city and improving the lives of the very people who voted AAP to power, Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues are resorting to cheap tricks to deflect attention from their failures.

By forcibly occupying a room in Delhi LG Anil Baijal’s residence, the CM has violated the law. The sit-in protest had entered its fourth day on Thursday and AAP leaders and cadres are trying to manipulate the situation.

Since Opposition parties are clutching at straws to keep themselves afloat in the swirling waters of national politics, leaders like Mamata Banerjee is exploiting the impasse to pillory the BJP government. Storm clouds are looming over AAP’s horizon. If the Delhi High Court finds the dharna unconstitutional and illegal, Kejriwal would find himself in dire straits.

His party’s run-ins with Baijal and his predecessor Najeeb Jung have followed a predictable pattern. Kejriwal cannot accept the fact that the Delhi LG is not supposed to toe his line and comply with his unreasonable demands. His hostility stems from his delusion that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are trying to upstage him.

If Kejriwal is truly a man of the people, then he should have faith in their verdict at the 2019 elections. Having lost his support base and political capital, the Delhi CM is now keen on an alliance with the Congress. When Kejriwal burst on to the political scene, he had marketed himself as the messiah. This saviour, however, has feet of clay.
