In 2014 when India proposed the draft resolution of adopting an International Day of Yoga, it was endorsed by a record 175 member states in the UN. The world was just waiting for India to take the much-awaited step and since then 21st June marks the day when the entire world celebrates the ancient Indian science. Science knows no boundary and India is a land of many such inventions and discoveries. Ayurveda is one such science that deals with health and well-being. It finds its origins in the Atharva Veda. Just like how the world has accepted Yoga, a time will come when the world for its diagnostic as well as a preventive treatment and well-being will rely on our ancient Vedic roots.

Knowingly or unknowingly Ayurveda is still a small part of our day-to-day life, which we will explore in the coming days. Health for any individual or a nation is the biggest area of concern. As per national health profile, there’s only one allopathic government doctor available for 11,082 people. This is more than 10 times the mandated doctor-patient ratio. Also, we do not have credible data but other estimates show that there are 8 lakh active doctors and we’ll need 5 lakh more. To fill this demand-supply deficit and for overall wellness, the world and mainly India will have to look towards our ancient science i.e. Ayurveda.

From tomorrow, Dr Balaji Tambe, an authority on Ayurveda and spiritual science will bring to us, on every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, a feature on Ayurveda. With over 40 years of research on classical Indian raga system, he runs Ayurvedic Panchkarma centre in India and Germany. Garbhsanskar, meant for pregnant women is his most famous work. He is founder of Atmasantulana Village, a world-renowned holistic healing centre. To share or ask anything about Ayurveda do send us an email.
