Blaming govt, demanding resignations is not right

Dr Subramanian Swamy’s article ‘How to wipe out Islamic terror’ on July 16 is bordering on the absurd. The author’s views on several issues have made him an island unto himself.

He has shamed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party by outdoing them in propagating their agenda. It appears that he himself has a political goal.

Unsure perhaps, of entering the next Parliament, he reaches out to the BJP angling for an invitation to merge his one-man party to ensure victory in the next election. But this is hardly possible from Tamil Nadu, looking at the BJP’s poor performance in the South.

The author should be writing on economic issues instead.
Fortunately for India, Hindus have a much broader vision and this reality has been proven time and again. It is the prime reason why not even 10% of Hindus (forget half) vote for an aggressive Hindu agenda.

His views are as revealing as his act of going underground to evade arrest during the Emergency and finally fleeing the country. He did not stand up for his views then and face arrest, as we are told, but has now embarked on a path that can spell ruin for this country of ours.

To term it as Islamic terrorism, in the first place, is incorrect. An entire community cannot be tarnished because of a number of misguided members. Several Muslims have died in different terror attacks. Terrorism is what the world is experiencing. Islamic terrorism is not India’s No 1 problem; it is the fanatical attitude and fanatics who are the country’s No1 enemy.

To blame the government and demand resignations and term it as intelligence failure is erroneous. Was the attack on Parliament not attempted during the NDA regime? By the same yardstick, the then government and intelligence set-up was a miserable failure, as the prime symbol of freedom and democracy was targeted.

He must admit that the NDA also failed when it released three terrorists after the hijack of IC-814 to Kandahar. Yes, this too was a miserable failure. The three released are now spewing venom.

Terror needs constant and intensive vigilance. The constant tirade against the government will only push it on the back foot and divert attention from governance and the much-needed reforms. If the country is a legal entity, a criminal suit must be filed for damages against those attempting to destabilise the government and the country.

The author has stooped further when he terms the prime minister a rubber stamp of a semi-literate Sonia Gandhi. Why this venom? He denigrates the office of the PM. Mrs Gandhi in all fairness has rejuvenated the party and none can call to question her sincerity and loyalty.

That a Harvard alumni and professor can virtually call Hindus to arms strengthens his theory that illiteracy, poverty, oppression and discrimination are not the motivating factors that egg people to take to terrorism.

The way ahead is to isolate every communal fanatic and give no exposure to their views. The country’s strength lies in her people and the majority Hindu population have throughout history demonstrated an inherent wisdom and vigour to take the country to the higher echelons.
