Rekha Palshikar guides SSC students on joining college of choice.

Admission process simplified

To avail of admission to various colleges in the city, students can procure forms from offices of any junior college from June 14 between 11 am to 4 pm. For CBSE and ICSE students, forms will be available only at Apte Prashala, Apte Road.

Forms will be accepted at collection centres from 11 am to 6 pm at any junior college, including Apte Prashala for Maharashtra state board students. While for CBSE and ICSE students, the forms will be sold and collected only at Apte Prashala.

Counselling sessions
Counseling sessions will be held for parents and students at Mhalsakant College at Akurdi, Muktangan College, Abasaheb Garware college, Sadhana Vidyalaya at Hadapsar, Modern College and Norwosjee Wadia college.

Number of forms
Considering the three streams - science, arts and commerce - students can fill forms for only two streams, and can take forms for only two streams - either science and commerce, commerce and arts or science and arts.

Bifocal forms
Those who have taken science forms can buy one more form called bifocal form. The admission of bifocal subjects is done through 'table admission' method. Those who opt for bifocal subjects have to drop one language and geography/biology/geology. Students need to think twice while opting for bifocal, as once admission has been taken for it, it won't be cancelled.

Special reservation
A student can get special reservation for sports or cultural activities, if they have played at district, state, national and international level in standard VIII, IX and X. The same applies for cultural activities, for which students will have to provide proof. For cultural activities students can get a certificate from Mumbai and the office for this is in front of Jehangir Art Gallery.

Area code
This is an important requirement in the form, which needs to be written accurately. In Pune, there are nine residential codes.

Depending on whichever code is mentioned, the student will have to give their preferences for colleges from that area code. This has been specially created for students from Sinhagad area.

Cut-off of last year
Every student gives preferences in the form. Wherever the marks of the candidate and the preferences meet, they get the college as per the preference list. Every applicant gets admission.

Information about cut-off marks will be mentioned in the form and students can make a choice accordingly. It will definitely be useful for selection of the college.

About select list
After the bifocal admissions are over, a scrutiny is made and the selected list is declared. The same is put up on the website and displayed in the colleges. A student should take admission within the stipulated time, as otherwise the candidate will lose the claim on the seat.

Joining other college
After securing admission in one college, students can seek admission in another college too. For this, you need to cancel the admission from the college where you have taken admission. Students do get a refund of a particular amount if the admission is cancelled within a month.

ATKT
Since 2010-11, students can seek admissions in standard XI even if they have failed in two subjects in the board exams. These admissions are also made through 'table admissions' method.

Admission is possible only in those colleges where seats are vacant. However, such students must pass the failed subjects in October or March. If they fail, their results of standard XI will not be declared.

For CBSE and ISCE
There will be no admissions for CBSE students, who have given school-based examination. Similarly, CBSE students appearing for board base need to give undertaking on a bond paper of Rs100.
