World Yoga Day: Divyang kids to attempt world record in Gujarat

Divyang children will attempt to create a world record during the World Yoga Day celebrations in the city on Thursday, a senior minister said on Tuesday.

Education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said that around 750 to 1,200 Divyang children will attempt to create a world record by demonstrating Yoga on June 21. The existing record for such an event is 350 children.

"The district administration has completed preparations for this event which will be a unique one," said the minister.

Each participating Divyang child will be given a Bluetooth connected headphone to enable him/her to demonstrate Silent Yoga, officials said.

The state-level celebrations of World Yoga Day will take place at the Sardar Patel stadium on June 21. Governor OP Kohli, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, union minister of state for law PP Choudhary, Gujarat high court's chief justice R Subhash Reddy, and justice MR Shah are among those expected to take part. Officials said that celebrities from sports, movies, literature, and other fields have also been invited to take part in the celebrations.

Chudasama said that more than 1.25 crore people are expected to take part in various events organized to mark the World Yoga Day on June 21. He said that the celebrations will take place at 43,377 centres across the state.

"When World Yoga Day was first celebrated in 2015, 1.09 crore people had taken part in various events. The number was 1.04 crore in 2016, and 1.16 crore in 2017. This year, we are expecting 1.25 crore people to voluntarily take part in Yoga Day celebrations," Chudasama said.

Divyang persons are also expected to take part in the celebrations.

The release said that several religious and voluntary organizations have also been roped in to ensure the highest participation in Yoga Day events, and to make the celebrations a success.
