The weatherman has good news for kite lovers in the city. The wind is expected to remain very good for Uttarayan, helping kite enthusiasts fly their kites high in the sky. The wind speed for the day is going to remain on an average around 13 km per hour.

"There won't be disappointment from wind this Uttarayan as wind speed is likely to remain above 6 km to 15 km per hour. From 8 am to 2 pm, the wind speed will be remain at around 13 km to 15 km per hour, and will decrease by evening," said an official from India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Winds are likely to prevail from northerly to northeasterly direction on Sunday and Monday. For Sunday, a partly cloudy sky is very likely. The maximum temperature is expected to remain at around 27 degree Celsius, while minimum temperature is expected to remain at around 16 degree Celsius.

On Saturday, the minimum temperature recorded was six degree Celsius above the normal and settled at 18.5 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded was 28.8 degree Celsius, which was one degree above the normal.

"Wind is the key factor to fly a kite. We enjoy flying kite only if we get good wind, otherwise it becomes a tough task. Tomorrow, there will be a competition among friends who will fly high and for how many hours," said Ketan Oza, a resident of Satellite.

Dry weather prevails across the state. Naliya recorded the lowest minimum temperature on Sunday, which was 14.4 degree Celsius, while Porbandar recorded the highest maximum temperature, which was 32.2 degree Celsius.

Amit Shah, BJP leaders in city for Uttarayan

BJP leaders are going to celebrate Uttarayan in Ahmedabad on Sunday. BJP Chief Amit Shah arrived in Ahmedabad on Saturday evening and will attend the kite flying festival at Naranpura area, from where he contested the assembly polls in 2012.

The revenue minister of Gujarat and MLA from Naranpura, Kaushik Patel, will remain with him on this event.

A senior leader of the BJP said, “Amitbhai is coming for Uttarayan festival but his visit will focus more on local political affairs. He will stay for two or more days in Gujarat and will hold meetings with party leaders as the local government bodies polls are to be held on February 4. He will direct the party organisation on selection of candidates and the campaign agenda.”
