Thakor Sena president and Congress MLA from Radhanpur, Alpesh Thakor, used his symbolic fast on Thursday to take a complete U-turn on the issue of migrant crisis that is currently churning the state. Thakor visited Sabarmati Ashram early morning before beginning his fast from his home in Ranip. The leader said he would hold fast across 15 states, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

"The violence that has been inflicted on the migrants has hurt my feelings. I'm fasting to atone the violence. Some miscreants assaulted the innocent and no one from the Thakor Sena was behind it. Even the folklores say the Thakors are pure by hearts. I've decided to hold fast programmes across 15 states, including Hindi-speaking states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. I will go there and hold Sadbhavna fast," Thakor said.

"I'm going to visit the north Indian community residing in different towns, villages and cities during Navratri and have a meal and play Garba with them. They are our brothers and sisters," Thakor added.

Congress leaders and MLAs like Gujarat chief Amit Chavda, leader of opposition Paresh Dhanani, Baldevji Thakor, Anand Chaudhary, Bharat Thakor and Dhavalsinh Jhala were also present along with the delegations of north Indian communities at the venue.

The fast ended in a quite dramatic way after a girl from north Indian community served him water in presence of Dhanani. "Alpesh Thakor loves everyone who lives in Gujarat. He was hurt by the violence inflicted on the non-Gujaratis. He was victimised by the BJP," Dhanani said.

"Congress is trying to defame the state government. While people have been condemning Congress' attempt, its leaders have been holding fast in the name of Sadbhavna," BJP spokesperson Bharat Pandya said.
