on the need to improve quality of education in government schools, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said on Friday that he wants to see publicly funded schools compete with their private counterparts.

The chief minister was speaking at the closing ceremony of Chintan Shibir of Education Department in Gandhinagar. It was attended by senior officials of the education department, District Education Officers, as well as District Primary Education Officers. Rupani lauded the Chintan Shibir saying open discussions between people who are responsible for building robust citizens of the future would help.

"Education is one of the foundations of development. The journey of development will be incomplete until we are able to improve quality of education," he said.

The chief minister further said that his government was committed to ensure 100% enrolment in schools, and to improve quality of education imparted. A state government release said that Rupani hinted at making Gujarati language compulsory till Class 8 in alll schools in the state, in a bid to increase Gujarati's usage and scope. The issue was also discussed by offiicals during the Chintan Shibir.
