Even as the complainant — who filed a complaint of rape against BJP leader Jayanti Bhanushali — informed the Gujarat high court on Thursday about her wish to withdraw the complaint, Bhanushali's arch-rival Chhabil Patel, former Congress MLA has wished for a fair probe in the case. Patel, who is in Nashik, also dismissed the rumours of compromise between him and Bhanushali in the case.

The high court has ordered the investigation agency to report if the victim was forced or intimidated to withdraw the complaint. Further hearing in the case will be held on Tuesday.

Speaking with DNA over a call from Nashik, Patel said, "Why should I make any compromise with Bhanushali? We do not share good terms with each other and that is an eternal fact. In fact, I wish that fair investigation be made in the case, even if the complainant withdraws it or turns hostile. Those who are behind the crime should be sent behind the bars and that is my clear opinion."

"Some people have been spreading rumours that I and Bhanushali made the compromise on the issue but I have been out of state for last seven days. I am not in contact with Bhanushali," Patel added.

A few days ago, ex-husband of the Surat-based rape victim had charged Patel for his alleged involvement in the rape case but Patel had rubbished the accusations saying Bhanushali had conspired to involve him in it because of political rivalry between them. He had also mentioned Bhanushali as his 'enemy'.

Bhanushali has been charged with raping, intimidating and blackmailing a 23-year-old woman by luring her into securing admission in a well-known fashion institute in Ahmedabad.

Bhanushali's advocate, on his behalf, informed the court that he was victimised of honeytrap, after his sex tapes with the victim went viral on social media. When DNA tried to contact Bhanushali, he was unavailable for comment.

A senior BJP leader said on the condition of anonymity, "We as party would breath a sigh of relief, if this case ends here. But the party can take the tough decision against Bhanushali and he may not be reinstated as vice president in party after this case. In future too, chances for Bhanushali to get good position in party organisations will fade."
