Vibrant Gujarat Summit to focus on solution to global challenges, says CM Vijay Rupani

The chief minister also says that Gujarat and Maharashtra are sister states which were separated in 1960 from one state entity

Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani on Monday presented the Vibrant Gujarat Summit (VGS) in Mumbai roadshow as an event to find solutions for global challenges. Rupani and senior officials of his government addressed the corporate giants of India, campaigning for the event in a roadshow held at the financial capital of nation.

Among the corporate leaders whom the CM and his team met were Anand Mahindra, Adi Godrej, Dilip Shanghvi from Sun Pharmaceuticals, Nikhil Meswani from Reliance Industries, Raoul Bajaj, CEO of Trafigura India, Ajay Kapur, MD and CEO of Ambuja Cement. Representatives from Tata Sons Limited, RPG Enterprise Limited, Hiranandani Group, United Phosphorous Limited, Welspun Limited, State Bank of India and Abbott were also present at one-on-one talks.

Addressing the attendees of the event, the CM said, "Vibrant Gujarat Summit in earlier editions laid stress on investment and cash flow in Gujarat but now this platform will talk about and find solutions for global issues and challenges. We will also ponder the opportunities available in the world."

"The ninth edition of the event will be based on the themes of new India, new investment, new technology and the whole world will see the new technologies for the very first time. We are also aiming to bring happiness to all. Be it a poor person or rich, we wish to see a smile on every face," Rupani added.

The chief minister also said that Gujarat and Maharashtra are sister states which were separated in 1960 from one state entity. He also said that his government had initiated the online permission for non-agriculture title for land in urban areas. He also announced that his government would bring the same system into force for rural areas too.

The chief secretary of Gujarat Dr JN Singh said, "Gujarat is a policy driven state and the government has framed simple policies that are conducive to the business environment in the state. As many as 30 lakh micro-, small- and medium-scale industries are thriving through these policies. The eco-system has created many jobs in the state for aspiring youth."

The chief minister also paid homage to the 166 victims of the Mumbai blast at the Trident Hotel. He visited the memorial and gave a floral tribute to the persons killed in the terror attack on November 26, 2008. He also attended a function held by the Kutchi community and sought their support in relief work for the Kutch region as it is facing scarcity owing to less rainfall this year.

Investment possibilities in sectors

Sun Pharmaceuticals showed interest in establishing a renewable energy park in Gujarat. The government also received good response for investments in sectors such as Defence, aerospace manufacturing and infrastructure developments. The chief minister also projected sectors such as financial services, electronics and logistics, media and entertainment as new avenues for investment in the state.

Six desalination plants to come up

The CM announced that six desalination plants with capacity of 100 million liters of water per day would be set up in Gujarat across its coastline. He said that such plants would come up at Dwarka, Kutch, Dahej, Somnath, Bhavnagar and Pipavav, and that the tenders for these plants would be finalised by the end of the year.

GIFT City catches investors' eyes

The project of GIFT City was given a special focus by the government and it became a major attraction for business leaders during the roadshow. The government also showcased the technological and infrastructural facilities projected and raised at the project site so far.
