Unusable toilets for the AMC staff

While there are plans that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has regarding repair of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the irony is that the civic staff are using stinking and damaged toilets, while the city administration is making sure that clean and hygienic toilets are given to citizens at public toilets.

There are more than a thousand visitors at the main office and also thousands of employees sitting there for more than 12 hours. They sit near to the stinking office and use the damaged toilets.

A regular visitor at the AMC office said he had to climb up to three or four floors to use a loo. "Each floor has separate toilet blocks for the male and female but are unusable. At two floors, the urinal seats are missing, while all toilets have a water leakage problem," said Suhail Patel.

The situation is far worst for people who are sitting there, specially office boys. "We are sitting on the floor, next to the toilet blocks. Despite cleaning the units twice, they stink. There is some drainage issue, which makes it the worst," said one of the employees on condition of anonymity.

A woman employee said she had to control her bladder because of the toilets here in the old building of AMC. "The building where I sit is the old one and toilets are even older and damaged at a level that we are scared to use it. So when in need, we have to come to the new building," she said.

Amit Patel, additional engineer of the central zone, he said that they surveyed all the toilets last week. "We conducted a survey of all the toilets last week and there is an urgency to repair them. Major work is needed and we have invited tenders for the same. From next week onward, repairs are expected to start," he said.
