Two get lifer in Sonia De’s murder case

City sessions court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to two accused Shahezad Chhipa and sharp-shooter Ganesha Tomar alias Bunty for the killing of eunuch gang leader Sonia De alias Imran Ajmeri.

Additional sessions judge MK Chauhan acquitted three other accused, Wasim Pathan, Gumansinh Rajput and Paras Upadhayay due to lack of evidence.

22 witnesses were examined during the trial, while 41 pieces of documentary evidence were also submitted. A witness named Rajiv’s testimony was key in bringing the accused to justice. 

During interrogation, crime branch found that Sonia’s arch rival Sanju masi had paid Rs1 lakh to Shahezad to have the former killed. Shahezad then contacted Ganesh, a professional and a resident of Porsa in Madhya Pradesh.

Shahezad also bought him a revolver worth Rs80,000. The planned was made to kill Sonia after Diwali.

After Ganesh arrived in Ahmedabad on November 3, Shahezad started keeping a watch on Sonia’s daily routine and movements. Sonia was shot dead in front of Roopali Cinema on November 24, 2011.
