The Mirzapur Court, on Wednesday, granted five days remand to Vastrapur police in the triple-murder case, where city-based builder Dharmesh Shah shot dead his wife and two daughters in their apartment located at the upscale Vastrapur area.

On Wednesday, Vastrapur police had produced Shah at the Mirzapur Court and asked for seven days remand. The court only granted five days remand in the matter.

During investigation into the case, the police found that Shah had suffered losses in business and was in debt amounting to nearly Rs 20 crore. His family had allegedly – despite knowing his financial situation – been pressing him to raise Rs 70 lakh for his older daughter's education in Australia.

It was also revealed during investigation that Shah's company had a turnover of Rs 50 crore. The police are trying to find the reason for Shah's turning on his family.

Inspector MM Jadeja of Vatrapur police station said, "There are several aspects in the case which are yet to be investigated. We are going to investigate whether Shah was pressurised by any of his money lenders, which led him to taking the drastic step. Statements of relatives will be recorded to get more information about Shah's family."

Following the murders, Shah had called up the police control room and confessed to his crimes. After that, the police reached the spot and arrested him.
