Navsari: Woman doctor commits suicide 
A junior medical physicist in a cancer hospital in Navsari committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan. As per police, Dr Swatika Rajendran was found dead in her apartment. The incident came to light after she didn’t reply to any of her phone calls the previous day.

Halol: 13 trucks detained for illegal mining  
In a joint operation, police and mining department seized 13 trucks loaded with illegally mined silt. As per officials, the trucks were using an old permit given to a lease holder in another area of the district. The case is being investigated to nab those involved in the scam.

Sidhpur: Two killed in road mishap
Two people were killed in a car-dumper collision in a mishap near Sidhpur. The deceased were travelling to a pilgrimage to mark birth of a newborn. The baby too was killed in the accident. Police have registered a case of rash driving against the driver of the dumper.

Dahod: Liquor seized, but no arrests  
Local police on Monday seized 10,464 bottles of IMFL worth Rs22 lakh in two separate raids, but couldn’t arrest the bootleggers. After receiving a tip-off, Dahod LCB raided the premises, but the bootleggers were nowhere to be found. Cops have swung into action to arrest the bootleggers.

Rajpipla: Two killed in a road accident 
Two of a family were killed in a road accident near Zunda village in Rajpipla when the car they were travelling turned turtle & crashed into a tree. Five others escaped with minor injuries. As per police, the family was on pilgrimage and were on way to Surat, when the accident occurred. The deceased have been identified as Rohit & Jasmina Vilalwala.

Denied permission to meet their family, two under-trials accused of murder squabbled with police in a city court. As per police, the accused were being taken to court for an ongoing trial. A few of their family members demanded to meet with them, but were denied permission. Heated argument ensued that eventually led to the scuffle, but the situation was soon under control, thanks to court security.

Mehsana: Betting racket busted
Local police on Monday busted a betting racket and arrested two in connection. Working on a tip-off, cops raided a house in Sonal Society and found the two accused taking bets on the test match being played between India and Australia at Hyderabad. A laptop, cellphones and a television set has been confiscated from the scene of crime.

Patdi: Honesty still exists 
Honesty still exists, and so was proven by a man who returned a gold mangalsutra to its rightful owner. The young man, who lives in Patdi, Surendranagar, had found the 20-gm gold ornament on the road. Not only is he honest, but he also strived hard to find the actual owner.

Palanpur: Milk powder stolen
Unidentified persons on Monday stole 142 boxes of powdered milk worth Rs3 lakh from the truck. The truck was loaded with the consignment at Banas Dairy on Saturday and the driver was to begin to journey on Sunday. The miscreants, apparently, broke the trampoline used to cover the boxes and managed to siphon away a sizeable portion of the shipment.

Patan: Town celebrates 1,268th birthday
Patan on Monday celebrated its 1,268th foundation day. Established as Anhil Patan by Vanraj Chavda, Patan was once the capital of Gujarat Region and has seen many ups and downs in its millennium-old history. A Rath Yatra was taken out in the city by Patan Heritage Conservation Society to mark the occasion.
