Ten more tehsils in Gujarat may be declared as scarcity hit areas soon. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani reviewed the condition of scarcity in the state in a meeting he held on Thursday with Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel.

After the meeting, Patel said, "We had the meeting at the CM's residence and we are going to declare more talukas in the state as scarcity affected. We have asked our officials to conduct the survey in their areas and if 'annavari' method suggests that more areas need to be included in the scarcity hit category, we will make announcements accordingly."

The chief minister, when he was in Kutch fifteen days ago, had declared the entire Kutch district and six more tehsils in the state as scarcity hit. He had also asked concerned officials to take sufficient measures including sending relief materials to people in affected areas October 1 onwards.

Chief Secretary Dr JN Singh was also present at the meeting with the revenue minister on Thursday. He briefed the CM about the actions taken by the administration for relief in scarcity-hit areas.

"The chief minister has asked us to act on war footing and get details on rainfall and present conditions, so that further actions can be decided on. We have also reviewed conditions of availability of water for drinking purpose, fodder for cattle and employment under MNREGA scheme for locals during this period," the revenue minister added.

Meanwhile, Thakor Sena leader and Congress MLA from Radhanpur, Alpesh Thakor, tried to lay siege on the local revenue office, demanding declaration of Radhanpur tehsil as scarcity affected. The local police detained Thakor and his colleagues and later released them.

Speaking about the issue, the revenue minister said, "Our government is seriously concerned about scarcity hit areas and we have been taking sufficient action there. If someone tries to play a political game on the issue, it is really disappointing. I request everyone to avoid politicising this grave issue."
