Amid road safety week celebrations in the city, a teenage boy lost his life in a hit and run incident near Ahmedabad International School in Bodakdev.

Meet Patel, 18, died on the spot after being hit by an unidentified vehicle at 10 pm on Thursday. He was a Class XI student of HB Kapadia school.

In his complaint to Vastrapur police, Arun Patel, 52, a resident of Simandhar Tower near Judges Bungalow, alleged that his nephew Meet, who was walking towards Devashish school complex, died after being hit by a vehicle.

One of his friends called him at 10:30pm and informed him that his nephew was lying unconscious after meeting with an accident. Arun Patel, brother-in-law of Meet’s father Haresh Patel, rushed to the spot and took Meet to Sola Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors.

Investigations by Vastrapur police revealed that Meet used to live at Shubham Bungalow on SG Highway. On Thursday night, Meet came to visit Mahadev temple in Satellite. He was walking down a narrow, poorly lit road of Rajpath Row Houses near Surel Apartments when he met with the accident.

“The narrow road is not well lit. That’s why no one saw the vehicle which hit Meet. When his uncle reached the spot, he found Meet’s head severely injured and bruises all over his body,” said KN Bariya, police sub-inspector of Vastrapur.

“However, we have not found any broken glass or any other broken pieces of the vehicle. So, it is very difficult to identify the vehicle whose driver caused the fatal accident and ran away,” he added.
