“God will find another person, more humble, more devoted, more obedient to him, and the society will go on”- Mother Teresa.

Following the footsteps of Mother Teresa, representatives of World People Service Centre (WPSC), an NGO based in Thiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu, were in Gujarat to help the deprived. During their 10-day stay in Ahmedabad, the volunteers devoted time to the needy families.

“During our stay, we visited Ahmedabad and Surat. In Ahmedabad, we provided food, clothing, shelter and medicines to 38 people. Out of those, 20 were mentally challenged while the remaining were leprosy patients and children,” said P Manimaran, president, WPSC.

With 450 volunteers of WPSC working across India, Manimaran decided to visit Gujarat. Taking the help of Ahmedabad Tamil Sangam in the city, Manimaran and his volunteers explored different vicinities where they helped the destitute. They even took them to nearby hospitals and bore their expenses.

“It is a self-funded organisation. Besides working in this NGO as the president, I am also working for a garment factory where we make T-shirts and sell them in cities like Chennai and Delhi. Whatever money we get from that business, we invest it in this organisation so that we can help the needy,” added Manimaran.

He added that he had faced many challenges while walking on the less-travelled road.
However, this never deterred him from taking risks and doing what he believed in. So far, they have helped around 1,500 people across India. They have conducted many organ and blood donation campaigns in schools and colleges, reaching out to nearly five lakh people.
