Swine flu: Four more dead, 118 new cases in Gujarat

Swine flu situation in the state seems to be worsening with each day. On Thursday, more than 100 cases were reported in the state, the second straight day when the number of fresh cases was in triple digits, even as four patients succumbed to the H1N1 virus.

The state health department said that 118 swine flu cases came to light in the state today. This was the highest number of cases confirmed in the state in a single day in the current season so far. With this, swine flu cases touched 2,303. The state has recorded the third highest cases in the country after Rajasthan and Delhi.

On Thursday, four swine flu patients were reported dead, taking the number of deaths in the season to 79. One death each was reported from Ahmedabad city, Kutch, Chhota Udepur, and Surendranagar. Gujarat ranks second after Rajasthan in terms of swine flu deaths this year. The health department data showed that of the 118 new cases, 43 were reported in Ahmedabad city. Rajkot and Bhavnagar cities reported seven cases, and Gandhinagar and Bhavnagar six each. Five cases were confirmed in Vadodara city and Sabarkantha, and four in Surat city, Mehsana and Botad. Dwarka, Banaskantha, Anand and Patan reported three cases each, and Gandhinagar city, Rajkot, Jamnagar city, and Ahmedabad rural two each. One case came to light in Kutch, Amreli, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Junagadh city, and Morbi. The health department said that 727 swine flu patients are undergoing treatment, whereas 1,497 have been discharged so far this year.
