Swine flu situation in the state seems to be slowly becoming alarming. On Monday, as many as 24 new cases of swine flu were reported in the state, while four patients succumbed, the highest number of deaths in a single day in the current season.
According to health department officials, four swine flu patients who were under treatment succumbed to the virus on Monday. Two deaths were reported from Bhavnagar city and one each from Botad and Amreli. With this, the number of swine flu deaths reported in the state in 2019 touched 24, the third highest in the country after Rajasthan (72 deaths) and Punjab (26).
The number of swine flu cases reported in the state touched 600 as 24 fresh cases were confirmed on Monday. Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) data showed that Gujarat accounted for the second highest number of swine flu cases.
Ten of the new cases were reported in Ahmedabad city and two each from Rajkot and Bharuch. One new case of swine flu was reported each from Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Junagadh, and Bhavnagar cities, and Ahmedabad, Botad, Gandhinagar, Amreli, and Patan districts.
According to officials, 269 swine flu patients are under treatment.
