Taking a leap, immediately after being awarded as the 'Best improved airport' in Asia Pacific region, Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel International airport (SVPI) has proved to be passenger-friendly airport, being run by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Passengers flying out of the city will no longer be required to stand in a queue inside the terminal. Airport officials have installed self-check-in kiosks right outside the terminal, that can be accessed by the passengers to either take a print out or get their boarding pass.

Confirming the same, Manoj Gangal, Airport director said, "Many times, passengers are not allowed to board when there is any discrepancy found in the spelling of the name during booking. These kiosks will help passengers avoid the chaos. They can now self-check-in, get their boarding pass and approach straight for the security check-in area."

Many times, passengers come to the airport in hurry and in a situation where there fail to have a screenshot or email of the ticket, CISF asks them to take the print out from the airline counter. Eventually, the airlines charge Rs 100 for a printout. These kiosks will help passengers avoid these things. Also, it will be of help to large groups who fly out."

The airport has installed a total of 15 kiosks of which two are installed outside the terminal. SVPI becomes first such airport operated by the AAI in the country to have kiosks outside the terminal. In India, only Bengaluru airport has such kiosks outside the terminal.

Officials believe that this facility will be extremely beneficial to people who visit or fly out of the city for work purposes. Usually, most passengers fly in and out the same day and do not have much luggage. With these kiosks, it will save a lot of time, said a frequent flyer.

However, another flyer Sachin Shah felt that these kiosks will make no difference. He said, "During my recent trip to Mumbai, I came across kiosks inside the terminal. So rather than self-check-in outside the terminal, I might as well do the same inside the terminal."

Interestingly, early this month, SVPI airport was ranked first by the Airports Council International in the category of most improved airports by region.

In Asia Pacific region, the city airport, that underwent a plethora of changes in past few months, has been awarded the first rank in the Asia Pacific region.
