Post-graduate students, who are studying arts at Gujarat University (GU), and had to go to KK Shastri College in Khokhra for taking the exam, created a ruckus after they received the question paper late on Saturday. While many students skipped the exam, the rest took the test after the paper arrived 30 minutes late.

"The paper was supposed to start at 8.30am. We didn't get the question paper till 9.05am. That is why I left the centre as I had other commitments. I will be appearing for the exam next month," said Sanjay Solanki, a masters programme student at SV Arts college.

National Students Union of India (NSUI) has sought extra time from college authorities.

"The authorities gave extra time to the students as it was the university's mistake. Why should the students suffer?," Narayan Bharwad, secretary, NSUI, said. "The college authorities came to the rescue of the students and got all the papers xeroxed and distributed to the students. They also gave 30 minutes extra to the students," he added.

When DNA contacted the university officials, they acknowledged the problem and said, "Due to some error, only some papers reached the centre. Due to this, the officials at the centre swung into action and xeroxed the papers."

"The incident has not come to my knowledge. But if question paper reaches the centre late, the students get extra time as per rule," Himanshu Pandya, Vice-chancellor, GU said.
