Stop zipping on roads! E-challan issuance from Apr 15: Gujarat police

The Gujarat police will restart issuance of e-challan memo against traffic rule violation in different cities from April 15. The government had stopped issuing a memo in January this year after some technical glitches reported in the process. The minister of state for home Pradipsinh Jadeja made this announcement in Gujarat assembly on Wednesday while answering to question of MLAs in question hour.

The Congress MLAs trying to tighten the noose around the government over the non-functional CCTV cameras in the police stations across Gujarat. Replying to their answers, Jadeja mentioned, “The process of issuance of E-challan memo for traffic rule violation was stopped across the state but that will start from April, 15 onward in all the cities including Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The process was stopped due to some technical reasons but the system is streamlined now. This government is committed to controlling the traffic-related offenses and that will be achieved through e-challan.”

The Gujarat government had taken the decision to stop issuing the e-challan as the CCTV cameras installed at traffic junctions and on the major roads were reported some technical glitches. The local government authorities had installed these cameras under smart city project.

The minister also informed the house that under Safe And Secure Gujarat (SASGUJ) project, 34 districts and 6 religious places in the state will be equipped with the CCTV camera network at the expense of Rs. 335 crore to strengthen security. Moreover, 619 police stations got 7,361 cameras were installed at the expense of Rs. 62 crore and the police superintendent of district or commissioner of police at city-level and footages were kept and maintained for 30 days.

The government installed CCTV cameras at 1,238 public junctions across the state and the government would expand the network for the security of the citizens in the state, added the minister. Jadeja also said that the government awarded the contract of installation of CCTV camera network and its maintenance to companies with the transparent process.
