Irked by non-cooperation of authorities of St Xavier’s College, Gujarat University has knocked the state education department’s door.
According to GU officials, St Xavier’s is the only science college in the city which has not adhered to the varsity’s instruction of giving admission to additional students in the Bachelor of Science course to meet high rush this year.
Recently, about 81 students were allotted St Xavier’s College by GU’s centralised admission team, but the college refused to take them.
Nilesh Jha, whose sister was one of them, told dna that because of the college’s refusal, his sister would have to take admission in a less reputed college despite good performance in class XII. Pro vice-chancellor at GU Dr Mukul Shah said that despite several requests the college refused to admit additional students. “We have brought this to state education department’s notice. We will wait for their direction,” said Shah.
Principal of the college, Father Robert Arokiasamy did not receive calls by dna.
