SRP sub-inspector shoots self, dies

A 56-year-old SRP sub-inspector, KU Aahir shot himself at his Gandhinagar residence on Saturday morning. He went to his room after having breakfast and shoot himself with his service pistol.

Aahir was posted with the State Reserve Police (SRP) but was presently working with the Quick Response Team (QRT). He had been living with his wife and son in the Gujarat State Police Awas Nigam flats in Gandhinagar. Aahir is a native of Haryana. His wife and son had come to live with him in Gandhinagar seven months ago.

The incident took place at around 9.56 am. The gunshot was heard by Ahir's wife who was in another room. She rushed to where Ahir was and found him in a pool of blood.

Ahir was rushed to the Gandhinagar Civil hospital where he was declared dead.

The Gandhinagar Sector 21 police station has lodged a case of suicide in the matter and started an investigation regarding it. Until now. the reason behind Ahir taking the extreme step has not been found by the police.

Virendrasingh Yadav, SP of Gandhinagar, said, "We have not found a concrete reason behind his actions, but during the primary investigation, we came to know that he and his wife usually fought. We suspect that due to a family issue, he must have taken the extreme step. Further investigation in the matter will eventually reveal more."
