Spend time with family, don't talk with friends about PUBG: Ahmedabad Police

A day after banning a highly-popular online game, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), and getting trolled online for the move, the Ahmedabad Police has now asked children who play the game to spend time with family, and avoid discussing PUBG with friends.

These were a part of an advisory released by the city police for children, who spend a lot of time playing the online game, and parents.

"Instead of wasting time on PUBG, it is better to spend time with family and friends. Avoid having discussions with friends about the game. In place of diverting energy towards PUBG, focus on goals, and work hard to achieve them," it said.

Citing negative impact the violent content of PUBG has on children, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner AK Singh banned the game on Wednesday. The ban came under attack on social media on Thursday with many users deriding it, and others wondering how police would enforce it. Many users also criticised the arrest of 12 people in Rajkot for playing the game.

On Thursday, state capital Gandhinagar became the latest to ban PUBG.

The advisory asked the children to stay away from PUBG videos on YouTube and other social media platforms.

"Children should stop playing PUBG and instead devote more time to sports or any other activity that interests you," it said.

The police asked parents to limit and control use of mobile phones and other electronic devices by children, and to find other sources of entertainment for them.

"In case of any noticeable change in the child's behaviour, have a talk with him. Also watch out for symptoms of depression, boredom, and other mental or physical ill-health," it said.
