Amdavadis travelling to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) either to drop off or receive folks in private cars can expect relief in terms of the ongoing toll-booth menace.

City airport officials have decided to segregate private and commercial vehicles entering the arrival and departure bay in an attempt to solve traffic woes. Now, there will be a separate lane for taxis, buses and another for cars and other private vehicles.

Manoj Gangal, Airport Director, said, "We have decided to segregate the private and commercial vehicles. This will also help us understand who is actually creating trouble at the toll booth. The segregated road is being constructed. The same should be implemented within this month," adding that hopefully, this would help ease traffic and bring respite to passengers.

Interestingly, the airport authorities, last month, had roped in students of HL College of Commerce to study and the collected data of a number of vehicles and types of vehicles passing by.

Recently, airport authorities had issued an advisory following complaints of irregularities to ease passengers' experience and prevent them from being cheated. However, this hasn't changed much as 67-year-old resident of Chandkheda, who is a frequent flyer, says he was recently victimized by toll officials. Requesting anonymity, he said that he was made to pay the toll amount even after he adhered to the 10-minute policy.

"When I reached the exit booth, I saw a long queue as a taxi driver was having an argument with toll-official. I informed the toll manager about this. However, they did not pay heed. All cars had to wait till the argument was over ended up paying the toll fee."
