Sola Civil to be upgraded as multi-superspeciality Hospital

In a bid to reduce the load on the overburdened Civil Hospital in Asarwa and UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre, the state government is all set to upgrade the existing Civil Hospital in Sola into a multi-super speciality hospital.

In a bid to reduce the load on the overburdened Civil Hospital in Asarwa and UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre, the state government is all set to upgrade the existing Civil Hospital in Sola into a multi-super speciality hospital.

Sources in the hospital told DNA that a new block is going to be constructed for the purpose where initially three additional departments would start functioning. These include cardiothoracic surgery, orthopaedic spine unit, and neurosurgery.

"Since space is an issue on the hospital campus, we are going for vertical development. A 10-storied building will be constructed which would house the new super-speciality departments and the allied infrastructure required for them. Tender for the same is going to be floated soon," a senior health department official said.

Hospital authorities to use parking space of vehicles for constructing the 10-storied building. On being asked whether it would lead to paucity of space for vehicle parking, administrators said an alternative space on campus will be utilised for parking.

FOOTFALL TO RISE

Currently, the hospital is running speciality departments such as medicine, surgery, gynaecology, skin, psychiatry, TB Chest, orthopaedic, ENT, and ophthalmology.

Sources said the daily footfall of patients in the out-patient department remains around 1,400-1,500 patients, whereas the bed occupancy in the in-patient department remains around 500 as against a functional bed strength of 650.

A medical practitioner of the hospital said: "As of now, patients from across the state and from outside, have to throng to Civil Hospital, Asarwa, and UN Mehta Hospital for getting simple procedures like angioplasty done. Once we have the three super speciality departments, we will be able to reduce the burden of these two hospitals and patients will be able to avail treatment at Civil Hospital, Sola".

Meanwhile, two other hospitals in Surat and Vadodara are also going to be upgraded to multi-super speciality hospitals. These include Civil Hospital, Surat, and SSG Hospital, Vadodara.
