In an attempt to survive amidst changing mindsets of Gujarati medium parents that turn to English medium schools, 57-year-old Shreyas Foundation has tied up with Cambridge University to impart Gujarati medium students English of international level. This is a first of its kind of a tie-up by Shreyas Foundation that aims to provide English which is recognized internationally.

While the Cambridge international classes are voluntary for English medium as well as Gujarati medium students, nearly more than 100 have already enrolled for the classes. Speaking about the same, Aarti Trivedi, Principal, Shreyas Foundation said, "Our school focusses on multilingual teaching with focus on local language and regional culture. However, there has been an inclination across the state to switch to English medium schools and which is why we thought to offer a platform where students can learn English which is recognized internationally. The teachers from Cambridge will visit Shreyas once a week and conduct classes of 2.5 hours.

Shreyas has about 460 students in Gujarati medium and 600 students in English medium. These classes will be offered for students from Grade 4 onwards after conducting a pre-test. Young Learners English (YLE) Test will also be taken by the students.

106-yr-old CN Vidyavihar starts IELTS training: To remain contemporary and not let their students fall back, CN Vidyavihar had established Angreji Kendra in 1999 with an aim to teach Gujarati medium students of CN Vidyavihar English in real time and with personal attention. While Angreji Kendra, over the years, was running number of courses for students as well as Gujarati medium teachers, this year onwards they have also started IELTS training.

Speaking about the same, Gita Joshi, Director, Angreji Kendra at CN Vidyavihar said, "At our centre, we have basic level, advanced level and professional level courses on English affiliated to Cambridge Assessment English. While studying English in a classroom becomes tedious, students visit our centre where they are divided into small batches so that personal attention is given to them. Also, understanding the demand of students in travelling abroad, we have started offering IELTS training, which is open for all, from this year. For IELTS training, we are getting our alumni join the batches."

While CN Vidyavihar too has a philosophy of multi-lingual culture, before few years, they started an English medium school as well affiliated to CBSE board from class 5 onwards. However, the aim was to offer English medium school option to their own parents, the school did not see many in-house students instead outside students.
