Janak Devi Jadeja (59), yet another resident, has been living alone in one of the apartments.

After the incident, she couldn’t even enter her house as she was afraid for her life and has been living at her relative’s place in Bopal area, which is 17km from her house. She has to travel to her house every day to get an update about when she can return to her home.

Jadeja said, “After the situation was brought under control, a week has passed. But I still fear going inside my house to get my stuff. I live alone in the house and it’s become impossible for me to deal with such a situation. I have been staying at my relative’s places right now, but it becomes troublesome for everyone after a week or so. I don’t know when I’ll be able to move back into my home.”

My flat is on the third floor of the building. We ran for our lives when the fire broke....  The situation is printed in my mind. Even now, I get goosebumps. Now, I am forced to stay here. The electric connection work has just started.

HOW THE FIRE STARTED

On September 17, at around 2pm, a major fire broke out in the basement of Hemant Tyre Shop, located in the ‘A’ block of the residential-cum-commercial building of Shreeji Tower located in Drive-In area. The fire started among the stacks of tyres at the shop and spread from there, with heavy smoke coming out.
