To tackle the issue of congestion and unregulated traffic on SG Highway, the traffic department has sent out proposals to build two traffic police stations along the route. The two traffic stations will be built in Sola and Sarkhej , which fall on the SG Highway.

The primary reason as per the traffic officials for building these stations is to have more officials and manpower for immediate action at these heavily congested areas on the highway.

"Whenever there is any accident in the area, it takes a while for the officials to reach the spot since there is only deployment of the police officials but not many are based there. Now that the highway has become too congested and one of the busiest areas in the city, there is a requirement for more officials to also have a base there. The traffic police stations will be a big help to regulating traffic at the route and the commuters will also save a lot of time since they are stuck in traffic there," said AM Patel, ACP (administration), traffic department.

Right now, the police officials who are deployed on busy junctions like Pakwaan Circle are the officials of Sarkhej and Sola police stations who are also required on crime cases, apart from traffic management.

"It is necessary that more traffic officials are present at all junctions for more assistance since the road has become more congested. So, just like Pakwan, there will be officials will be deployed at all junctions along the SG Highway," Patel added.

Right now, the proposals are confined to the paper and have been sent to the Roads and Transport Department of the Gujarat government for approval.

One of them has been approved and the other is pending, and the traffic officials claim they should be approved soon.

The officials told DNA that the both the police stations will be completed by the end of 2018 and will actively help in the traffic management.

The names of the stations have for now been proposed as A1 and A2, but they might change upon completion.
