Patients of modest means ailing from kidney, liver and pancreatic diseases or knee and hip joint decay have good news from Gujarat government. The patients whose total annual family income is up to Rs 3 lakh can avail of the benefits under a government scheme shortly, said Minister for Health and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel on Thursday.

Congress MLA from Dariyapur, Gyasuddin Shaikh, asked dueign Question Hour what kind of ailments were treated under Mukhyamantri Amrutam (MA) Yojana. The deputy chief minister, in a written reply, said that the state government was planning to include kidney, liver and pancreas transplant and knee and hip replacement surgeries under the MA scheme in the 2018-19. An announcement would be made soon, Patel said.

While presenting Budget 2018-19, Gujarat government increased the cap on the income of eligible families to Rs 3 lakh from Rs 2.5 lakh, whereas the cap for assistance in medical treatment was increased to Rs 3 lakh from Rs 2 lakh. The government will provide Rs 5 lakh to the beneficiaries for transplant of organs.
