In the school vehicle accident which happened on the Navapura road in Changodar, 20 people were injured including 19 students and a driver after a school vehicle collided with a truck. It was revealed during the investigation that the school vehicle was not registered with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and it was not authorised to ferry schoolchildren.

According to Changodar police sub-inspector JV Rathod, "The school vehicle which was carrying schoolchildren neither had any logo nor the name of the school. We suspect that the vehicle was privately arranged by parents to drop their kids to school. We have started an investigation into the incident and school authorities will be questioned as to whether the vehicle was authorised by the school or not."

The Bavla Regional transport officers had also reached the spot and found out that the van which was ferrying the schoolchildren was not authorised to carry school kids as the vehicle was not registered with the RTO.

As per RTO norms, a school vehicle and driver's name should be registered with the RTO by the school authority. In this case, it was not registered and had the registration of a passenger vehicle.

As per RTO officials, a school vehicle should be coloured yellow compulsorily. It should also have a fire extinguisher, First Aid kit and more importantly an attendant to guide the bus driver regarding traffic and to take care of the children inside.

DH Yadav, RTO of Bavla, said, "We have are going to issue a notice to the Divyapath school for not following RTO norms and for their negligence. As it is their duty to verify whether the school vehicle is authorised and is following the norms.

We will also suspend the driving license of the driver and his permit for his negligence."
