The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Ahmedabad Rural Police Sleuths, on Tuesday, arrested three persons, including a school trustee for stealing crude oil by puncturing the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) pipeline passing through Sanand-Bavla road area of rural Ahmedabad.

As per police officials, two days back, a complaint was lodged with the Navagaam police station of Kheda by Simardeep Singh Bhala, the in-charge and operations manager of IOC, stating that someone was stealing oil from the Salaya Mathura IOC pipeline passing through the Sanand area.

The Rural LCB team started an investigation into the matter with the IOC team and it was discovered that a part of the pipeline passing near Suraj Moti School located in Sanand, had been punctured and an alternate pipeline, leading into the school's compound, had been connected to it.

Further investigation revealed that there were seven people, including a trustee of the school, were involved in the case. Police have managed to arrest three of the accused identified as Amresh Patel, a resident of Naranpura (trustee of the school), Bablu Thakor, a resident of Sanand (watchman of the school) and Gulam Shaikh, a resident of Sharkhej. The remaining four accused are on the run and a search is on for them.

It was also revealed during the investigation that the primary accused in the case, those absconding, had drilled a hole in the pipeline and started stealing the oil. The trustee was implicit in the matter as his permission was required to have the pipeline passing through the school compound. The trustee, Patel, was getting Rs 50,000 from the accused for each tanker of oil filled there.

Deputy SP KT Kamaria of Ahmedabad Rural Police, said, "The racket was discovered after an internal dispute broke out among the accused regarding money and one of them leaked information on the matter. The oil was being siphoned off for the past two months, which even the IOC team was not aware of. We have nabbed three accused in the matter right now, while the search for the remaining four is on."
