Satellite centres for cardiac diseases soon

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday announced that satellite centres for cardiac disease treatment would soon come across the state. He said that such centres would come up in Ahmedabad, Surat, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Vadodara and Mehsana. Rupani was speaking at the three-day event of the 19th conference of Pediatric Cardiac Society of India held in Gandhinagar.

Rupani said that 10% of child mortality cases are because of cardiac diseases. "Our government has initiated a process to set up primary and secondary-level pediatric cardiac treatment centres in Surat and Gandhinagar. While the process for such centers at Ahmedabad Sola Civil Hospital, Vadodara, Rajkot and Mehsana civil hospital would also underway. There is also a need of high standard tertiary care centres for cardiac treatment of children in our country."

"Gujarat government check health of 1.5 crore children of the age of 0 to 18 years in the state every year. The government provides free super speciality treatment of serious diseases like kidney or heart to children diagnosed with. We also pay for their treatment, if the child needs to be shifted to another hospital anywhere in India for intensive treatment."

The deputy Chief minister Nitin Patel also was present on the occasion. Speaking to the gathering, he said, "We have the best of its kind hospital like UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center. We are spending Rs. 470 crore additional to improve the facilities here and that would treat more patients. Patients from Gujarat, neighbouring states and from abroad also come here for cardiac treatment. More than 70% patients are treated here for free."

The chief secretary of Gujarat Dr JN Singh, additional chief secretary of health Punamchand Parmar and other officials also were present in this conference. The CM felicitated three senior doctors conferring lifetime achievement award, that included Dr Ashwin Mehta from Jashlok Hospital of Mumbai, Dr Sunil Dalal from Ahmedabad's VS Hospital and Dr DG Yagnik from Ahmedabad.
