The rumour of Vijay Rupani resigning as the Gujarat Chief Minister got another push on Thursday when Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel endorsed the same. Taking the rumour farther, Hardik claimed that the Gujarat cabinet forced Rupani to put down his papers. However, the Chief Minister himself, his deputy Nitin Patel and other leaders have dismissed the rumours.

Patel was in Rajkot to record his statement at Malaviya Nagar police station in Rajkot city in the morning in a case of illegally organised public meeting. After the formalities, PAAS leader talking to media persons claimed that Rupani put in his papers on Wednesday during the cabinet meeting held in Gandhinagar after the members of the cabinet asked him to do so.

Hardik said, "Rupani has been forced to put his resignation as soon as possible and he did that in a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday. The announcement of the resignation will be made within ten days, and some Patidar or Rajput community leader will take over as Gujarat CM very soon."

While Patel did not substantiate his claims, this created a ripple in the state. CM Rupani had to meet the press to dismiss the claim.

Rupani said, "I do not know, if any such issue has been made viral on social media or anybody talked on this. I have not resigned and there is no point of resigning. Hardik has been trying to grab the attention of media towards him as he is loosing the steam. I think he does not have enough knowledge that CM has to tender resignation to the governor and not to the cabinet."

His deputy Nitin Patel, who was in Delhi to attend a health ministry function, also trashed the rumours. He said, "There is no question of resignation by Vijay Rupani and several people have been trying to spread such rumours for some days. Rupani is working at the best as the Gujarat CM and party also is happy with his performance."

Many other leaders, including BJP chief Jitu Vaghani also rubbished this and blamed that Congress was trying to creat disturbance in Gujarat by spreading such rumors.

‘Cabinet Demanded’

PAAS leader Hardik Patel claimed that the Gujarat cabinet on Wednesday forced CM Vijay Rupani to put down his papers. He claimed that the CM has resigned from his post following the meeting.
