Police seized a truckload of IMFL from Adwal village in Ahmedabad district just ahead of the New Year celebrations on December 31. Around 6,000 bottles of alcoholic beverages worth Rs19 lakh was recovered.

Official sources confirmed that the police were tipped off about the liquor-laden truck coming from Fedhra village in Surendranagar. Police arranged tight security near the Dhandhuka check post and caught the truck.

“We were already informed about this and in order to avoid any untoward incident, we had tight security arranged near the village,” said GJ Desai, circle police inspector. However, the driver and cleaner of the truck managed to escape from the spot.

“We had to chase the truck as the vehicle did not stop at the check post. And during this, both the driver and cleaner managed to escape, leaving the truck midway”, Desai added.  Meanwhile, the vehicle number has been sent to the RTO and the matter is being investigated by the police.
