A wrong turn may cost you dearly. No other than Deepak Surana would understand this best after his Maruti Eco collided into the gate of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport's international terminal in the wee hours of Tuesday. Surana had to pay a fine of Rs 80,000.

The collision broke the gate's glass door as well as the car's front glass. Surana had gone to the airport to receive a passenger. As per the information received, cars had queued outside the international terminal to receive and drop passengers. Surana, instead of applying the brakes, accelerated the car in high-speed which collided with the door of the terminal.

A source said, "The speed of the car was so intense that it immediately broke the glass gate. Fortunately, no one was hurt."

Confirming the same, Manoj Gangal, Airport Director, said, "The estimated cost of the damage was Rs 80,000 which was imposed on the driver. We have also imposed Rs 5,000 as penalty for damaging public property. The idea is only to request passengers to be more careful while driving within the terminal campus and see to it that the public properties are kept well as it is for every citizen to use."
