Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will invest Rs 611 crore on roads and flyovers in the financial year 2018-19, said Mukesh Kumar, the civic body commissioner.

Like every year, this year also the basic infrastructure was the focus of the budget for the heritage smart city. For the new roads, SG Highway service road area is going to be developed on both the sides of roads. Also, there is a proposal of Road Design Cell. “The Cell will comprise experts of road resurfacing, private and government officials. There is a scope of inclusion of engineers from other civic bodies to share their views and experiences,” said Kumar.

There is a commitment to making 150 km long new road network in the city of 2018-19. There is a proposal of the elevated express corridor at Kalupur railway station.

“We are going to make 16 new underpasses on Ahmedabad Botad railway line. The three-layer flyover is going to ease traffic burden from the main roads. The proposed flyovers and underpasses is the seamless movement,” said Kumar.

Proposals for 15 parks

Fifteen new gardens have been proposed for a clean and green Ahmedabad. Makarba area will get its first garden. Other gardens have been proposed at Chandkehda, New Maninagar, Indiranagar of Lambha, Science city, Vande Matram of Gota area etc.

A miniature heritage park at Riverfront

Sabarmati Riverfront project has been completed and every year new features by the civic administration are being added. This year, Kumar has introduced a heritage theme based miniature park at the riverfront, on the lines of that one in Agartala, Tripura. Ahmedabad’s miniature heritage park will exhibit miniature version of monuments in the city.

World Heritage City

Keeping in mind the cleanliness and sanitation of a residential area, the civic body has proposed to give a cash prize to the societies. The award includes five societies from each zone to get Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh cash prize.

Ahmedabad civic chief, Mukesh Kumar, on Friday, told DNA that this is a small step for the safe and secure Ahmedabad. Kumar said that network of the CCTV cameras in the city will make the city secure with more than 6,000 cameras for surveillance.

For ease of traffic, burden city will have a total of 88 flyovers in next two years. The recently-proposed a three-layer flyover is first-of-its-kind in the country. “We have studied two proposed areas and found bottlenecks, which are causing traffic snarls. If one has to travel to Kalupur railway station from SG Highway, one will face problems at the Nehrunagar circle and Paldi cross roads,” said Kumar.

“We have made a design of the flyover which we will submit the state government for the final approval. We have properly study the areas and have prepared the design accordingly,” added Kumar.

Taking a step ahead for safe, clean and energy producing city, bio-mining will take place at Pirana dumping site.
