Rs 2 lakh for kin of 13 people killed by rains in Gujarat

Death toll in Gujarat because of unseasonal rains and storm touched 13 on Wednesday, as two more deaths came to light even as Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced that survey would be conducted to assess the damage caused.

Over 50 people were killed as rains coupled with thunderstorm and lightning hit several parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra overnight. Rajasthan witnessed the maximum casualties with 25 people killed in rain-related incidents following by Madhya Pradesh where 15 were killed. 

The MeT Department has predicted dust storm/thunderstorm accompanied with high velocity winds and lightning at a few places during the next 24 hours.

“Most of the deaths were caused by lightning and collapsing trees, while the death in Viramgam taluka was due to of electrocution,” said Manoj Kothari, Director of Relief.  The state and centre announced aid of Rs 2 lakh respectively to the family of each of the deceased.
