Riverfront project on Cept, LSE students’ minds
Students of London School of Economics join Cept for a collaborative workshop on ‘The Public City’.
Since its inception, the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project has been in the limelight for one reason or the other. This time it is being talked about by the young minds of Cept University and London School of Economics.
A collaborative workshop is organised at Cept March 18 - 23, where students and faculty members from the Master's Urban Design programme, Faculty of Architecture, Cept University and a group of 26 Master's students in City Design and Social Science, London School of Economics (LSE), are sharing their ideas.
Cept has entered into collaboration with LSE for the first time, says PVK Rameshwar, professor and head, Department of Urban Design.
He said, "The theme for the workshop, 'The Public City,' explores alternative ways of thinking about public space and the public realm in the context of an increasingly complex and private city. In light of this theme, we are focusing on the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project."
The workshop comprises lectures, interactive sessions with experts from Ahmedabad and those associated with Cept and site visits. The students will be required to deliberate and evolve a brief for a project along the riverfront.
A wide range of perspectives are also on the plate of students through lectures and/or discussions by Dr BV Doshi, Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, AMC, Hanif Lakdawala, Sanchetana, Dr Navdeep Mathur, IIMA, Dr Bimal Patel, EPC, Kirtee Shah, Prof. NH Chhaya, Cept and Dr Renu Desai, Centre for Urban Equity, Cept.
