Revenue department issues Twitter guidelines for collectors

After DNA published a report in its July 8 edition on whom the district collectors of the state are following on the social networking website Twitter, Pankaj Kumar, commissioner of the revenue department, issued an advisory-cum-guideline for them in the evening the same day. 

Sources said on Saturday evening, Kumar posted a 16-page guideline on dos and don’ts in the official WhatsApp group of the collectors. DNA had reported how some collectors were following Twitter handle of Bollywood celebrities through their official Twitter handle. Recently, all 33 collectors of the state were asked to be active on social media, particularly Twitter, to solve grievances. Several of them are new to Twitter and are not aware about its operations in detail. 

A senior official said, the guidelines states, “Avoid following controversial characters, comments on Twitter.” The officer said, “Kumar has asked to not entertain people who are always trolling the government. He has asked the collectors to focus on welfare schemes and update about it.”

It also advises to post pictures if any minister visits them and post updates about the same.
